Head cricket Coach of Lagos Ingram Jones plans to run a coach education program for young people in the community interested in becoming cricket coaches with a certified course
The coaching course will cover all aspects of cricket coaching to equip the trainee coaches with the skills and confidence to develop the sport in Lagos, Nigeria or internationally.
Head Coach Jones has been mentoring a cluster of young people across Ipakodo and Majidun schools during coaching sessions since March and believes the time is right to launch the program.
"These young people in the community have been assisting me since I started coaching in Ikorodu and due to the mass numbers of participants, I knew I couldnt do it alone so I selected leaders within the sessions to start shadowing what I would do. They have shown passion, commitment and discipline which are all key components to becoming a good coach and they are all itching to learn more about the sport as players and coaches!".
"What is also very encouraging is that the leaders selected are all in the 17 or 18 yr old age range so they either could start coaching and getting paid or not too far off being at an employable age to begin a cosching career, the time is now! The course is world class in it's structure and has produced many coaches in the UK and Ikorodu will have some great assistant coaches ready to establish themselves in cricket after this course and the facilities at Majidun are a perfect setting to learn. A massive thank you to the Prinicpal and Chairman of Majidun Senior Grammar school whom support the vision of cricket in the community!"
The coaching assistant course will launch in Mid June 2022. Stay Tuned.
