IKORODU STUDENTS TRAIN TO BECOME CRICKET COACHING ASSISTANTS

LAGOS HEAD CRICKET COACH MENTORS 18 STUDENTS ON COACHING ASSISTANT COURSE

IKORODU is not a city known for cricket but that has changed since Lagos appointed new head coach Ingram Jones who has made it his vision to take cricket into communities that have not played and made aware of how great a game cricket is.
Since March 2022 Jones has wasted no time in getting to work uniting schools such as Ipakodo Grammar School, Majidun Grammar School and Government College into playing cricket. 48 players have trained with Lagos state players and students have watched international cricket live.
However during the June mid break a selected group of students took part in a 2 day program to become coaching assistants. The program is structured around the UK cricket board in which Jones himself studied and qualified as a head coach. 25 years on now in Lagos, Nigeria he has passed that wisdom and experience onto the next batch of Lagos cricket coaches.
"The students selected have at one point or another shown me they were ready to become coaches. During their training sessions they would watch the way I set up drills and would coach and often would shadow me. This has beeen since I started with them in March. On a weekly basis they have been training well and I thought in June would be the best time to put them through their paces to see how much they have learnt and I have to say I am very impressed. They will still hace to do 20 hours after this 2 day course, coaching in schools to show what they have learnt but so far they are doing a great job and I know that Ikorodu cricket community will definately grow with these students and I'm very confident they will soon be producing cricketers on their own!"
